The Place
1200m above the town of Bad Gastein, Waldhaus Rudolfshöhe is a historic mountain hideaway in the Austrian Alps. The building dates back to 1375, and has been thoughtfully restored to combine its traditional alpine charm (think beams, stonework, and sloping roofs) with a stylish modern design.
The four rooms are spacious and light-filled, paying tribute to the surrounding mountains and forests with earth tones and quality wooden furniture. Each has a newly-renovated en-suite, cosy seating area, and the Blue Salon and Wellness Room both have wood-burning stoves.
The location is nothing short of magical: guests enjoy uninterrupted views of the Alps and the Gastein Valley, with easy access to hiking trails and just a five minute drive from Bad Gastein. There’s a real focus on slow living, conscious hospitality, and wellness here – guests are encouraged to take in their surroundings on the panoramic outdoor terrace, enjoy coffee and cake in the large garden, and relax in the sauna and small outdoor pool.
New owners Nina and Denis took over in 2025 and are dedicated, passionate two-person team. In the evenings, they serve Asian-inspired dishes in the small but charming restaurant, freshly prepared with local ingredients and herbs picked straight from the garden. Breakfast is a mix of continental and cooked options – the homemade syrups and jams are a highlight.
An authentically Alpine escape for outdoor enthusiasts. Nina and Denis are also offering the option to rent out the entire Waldhaus for larger gatherings – enquire for more details.
