The Place
A stay in the suburbs of Vienna at this century-old family-run business is always delightful. Frau Hartmann retired in 2000, but she is still involved in the hotel, now run by her daughter Andrea who is also helped by her daughter during the summer. Andrea knows exactly what a charming small hotel should be, both as hotelier and as guest, having used our guide to Italy on her holidays.
The 3-storey art nouveau villa is set back from the road, with a beautiful new garden in front of the house. Bedrooms on that side are double-glazed, so noise is not a problem. The garden was redesigned in 2010 and is now the main draw of this arty hotel. It’s unusually large for a place so close to the city centre, and is filled with flowers and dotted with small paved sections with tables and chairs where visitors enjoy eating breakfast or relaxing after a long day in the city. All the bedrooms have been refurbished recently and are decorated with paintings from different periods. What else makes this bed and breakfast special? The owners, whose welcome is genuine and whose friendliness is natural.
The two suites are idea for longer stays, especially with children. Tram 43 stops by the hotel and takes 15 minutes to get to the city – you can buy tickets at reception.
