‘Glamping’ is the new camping – appealing to young and old alike – and these yurts are just one of many local visitor attractions that show how wrong it is to think of the Channel Islands as old-fashioned.
Set into the hill opposite picturesque St Aubin these three luxury yurts bring hotel comfort to lovers of the outdoors. The circular tents are comfortable and cosy, with double beds, furniture and a log-burning stove for chilly nights. Each one, and its fittings, is designed to be eco-friendly, making the whole experience as ‘green’ as possible.
Matching their names, ‘Ship Ahoy’, ‘Forest Green’ and ‘Harbour Retreat’, the yurts are kitted out with themed vintage and homemade accessories. Thoughtful decorations such as handmade lavender bags adorn the walls, former apple crates become bedside tables, ladders are turned into towel rails and potato boxes (Jersey Royal of course) make quirky mirror frames.
The lavatory and shower block is thoughtfully designed, and gleaming clean, as is the communal kitchen ‘The Lookout’, which has home-grown ingredients to purchase (payment via honesty box), and a panoramic window with views of the sea. There is an eco-friendly but romantic hot tub installed at the top of the site, again with views over St Aubin.
Many guests are often avid walkers and cyclists, as Clifden is situated perfectly for exploring Jersey’s amazing coastline. The famous ‘Railway Walk’ is popular.
