The Place
This PIG stands out from the rest for its long history: it’s a Grade II listed building dating 15th century, occupied by one family for 400 years, before changing hands in the 19th century. The seventh of the PIG collection has been skilfully repurposed in keeping with the signature style.
It’s half a mile inland from Harlyn Bay and its beach, which is large, sandy and only a ten-minute walk from the hotel. Neighbouring surfing beaches such as Polzeath are high profile and crowded, whereas Harlyn Bay has lower-key surfing fun for families and novice surfers.
The interior design is in the typical PIG style – rustic, homely, yet elegant. Wood panelling and cosy armchairs mix with chandeliers and landscape paintings.
Each bedroom is different. Fourteen are spread through the main house, the stone house and four garden wagons. You could stay here several times and have a different experience on each occasion.
This is a fine old country house which hasn’t lost its stately charm, while managing to feel something like a home from home.
