Why we love it...

Long-time, charming favourite

The Place

Linda and Ciro Zaino moved to the tip of Cornwall from London, where Ciro had managed some of the capital’s top restaurants, to open this restaurant-with-rooms in a Grade II listed Georgian house close to the sea front. They run it with great panache, reports our inspector, who considers it a ‘great find’. He describes it as Mediterranean in colour and feel, quirky in style and breezy in atmosphere. Brighton meets the Neapolitan Riviera.
The former home of one of Cornwall’s leading native artists, the house is still full of paintings, idiosyncratic furniture and lush pot plants. Downstairs there is a little cosy sitting room as well as the most important room in the building, the restaurant. Here blues and yellows predominate in a room that spills out in to a small walled garden burgeoning with terracotta pots and palm trees. Ciro’s sunny cooking, using fresh local ingredients, has become a great draw.
Upstairs, the five simple bedrooms are highly individual with a diverse mix of family pieces and collectables. Fresh flowers are everywhere. Linda is charming and her front-of-house presence is just right: enthusiastic, friendly and welcoming.
