Why we love it...

Relaxed beachside inn

The Place

In the heart of the historic fishing village of Beesands, directly on the South West Coast Path and on a road that leads to nowhere, nestles a small 19thC inn, frequently dubbed a hidden gem – The Cricket Inn.
Offering outstanding sea views and an idyllic setting surrounded by miles of empty beach, it is a great place for walkers. You may find a walk to the Start Bay lighthouse of particular interest, as it takes you to one of the most exposed peninsulas on the English coastline, jutting out almost a mile into the sea.
Climbing the stairs to the bedrooms opens up stunning views over the sea.  You cannot see the ground, so you can almost feel as if you are on a boat. The rooms are neat and cosy: white walls and white wood panelling create a sense of space, especially with plenty of bright light coming in from the windows. Bold splashes of blue, striped and zigzag patterns on the bedding, and fish print pillows will remind you of the sea. You can drift off to sleep listening to the waves.
Downstairs is the restaurant and pub. The Cricket Inn is a strong supporter of all things local and gets their crabs, lobsters and scallops direct from the bay, only yards away, caught by a local fisherman. It’s appropriately decorated: pillars wrapped in ropes; decorative oars; a large ship model and framed photos on the walls telling the inn’s story. The menu is, unsurprisingly, mostly seafood. A large number of guests recommend the Seafood Pancake. The restaurant is very popular with the locals and visitors alike, so book in advance.
