Why we love it...

West Cowes' hidden gem

The Place

This 18th century, Grade II listed town house in the heart of Cowes Old Town on the Isle of Wight has been making a name for itself since 2016 as a place that offers great food and a seaside experience with a difference.

Not actually on the seafront but in a quiet location off of the high street, you are close to the shops but not to the noise. It’s a stone’s throw from Town Quay as well as Northwood Park so the location is hard to fault.

North House has a library, a private dining room, a bar, a restaurant, and an outdoor heated swimming pool. Other outdoor areas include the rear terrace dining space and small but cute gardens which are a huge bonus.

The 14 bedrooms all differ in their quirky design while sharing the same high standards. With three categories of rooms – cosy, comfy, and spacious – prices cover a useful range. Some have sea views while others have a view over the town and start at the reasonable price of £145 per night, including breakfast. The well above average food is priced as you would expect. We enjoyed the hot smoked anchovies as a starter and a spicy Goan seafood curry to follow.
