The Place
The sister property of Askham Hall, just a few minutes’ walk away, The Queen’s Head is a village pub hosting six recently-opened rooms. Refurbished in 2019, it’s excellently placed among beautiful surrounding countryside.
Its rooms are uncomplicated but spacious and in varying degrees of traditional: some have exposed beams, wooden four-poster beds and rustic furniture, others have more modern beds with bold wallpapers and glass tables.
The menu is short and classically British, although there is a useful selection of vegetarian options, such as the black bean burger. Indeed, the food already has a reputation locally – especially the desserts. Evening food is offered for residents of the pub or Askham Hall, from 6 to 7:30pm. This is replaced every Friday evening with a ‘pop up restaurant’ offering a different set menu each month, designed by the chefs of Askham Hall and its other sister property, the George and Dragon, also recommended.
In April 2023, Anthony Amos joined The Queen’s Head from the Michelin-starred restaurant at Askham Hall. We can expect new delightful dishes inspired by the seasons and cooked from local produce.
