Why we love it...

Historic and comfortable

The Place

Quaint is an over-used description for inns in old buildings, but here it really does fit. This historic inn on the High Street of Stamford’s St Martins district is mainly 17thC and has been sympathetically made over in the usual quirky-luxurious style of the Hillbrooke mini chain of which it is a part.
Well-chosen antiques rub shoulders in the seven bedrooms with top-quality beds and pristine white linen. Most of the rooms are a fair size.

The food is better than average country inn fare using local ingredients. A drinking club for a 17thC Earl of Exeter and friends was based here, and members’ nicknames eg The Badger are used for the rooms. Burleigh House can be reached on foot. (Other Hillbrooke places to stay featured in this website: The Master Builder’s at Buckler’s Hard and The William Cecil at Stamford.)
