This Georgian townhouse, once a run-down pub, is a welcome addition to our London section, and the newest hotel in the Artist Residence group. Like its siblings in Cornwall and Brighton it has been characterfully converted into a stylish but relaxing place.
Rooms and suites are split across three floors and vary in size, but make the most of their Georgian townhouse dimensions: even the smallest rooms have been thoughtfully designed, with well-placed sockets and appropriately sized furniture.
The modern-rustic style, with exposed brick, new leather and wooden floorboards, is low key, but only in comparison to its more extrovert sister hotels and we like that the bathrooms are fun with retro tiles and modern fittings; one even has wooden panelling.
Downstairs is the popular bistro-style restaurant, The Cambridge Street Kitchen, which is run by head chef Elliot Miller and serves seasonal British produce. There is also a deli counter, serving Horsham coffee, fresh juice and baked goods. After dinner, relax in a comfy chair in front of an open fire in the Club Room. Adjoining is a room with a ping-pong table that can also be used for meetings or private dining.
In the basement is the trendy cocktail lounge where ‘mixologists’ serve drinks infused with celery and foamed with egg-whites. It’s snug, dimly lit and decorated with iconographic prints and modern-retro furniture. Very well located for a London hotel: on a quiet street five minutes walk from Victoria station.
