The Place
This historic hotel sits right at the edge of Loch Sunart on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula, at the gateway to the ‘Wild West’ of the Scottish Highlands. The Georgian building was originally a mine manager’s house, and the rooms – except for the Sunart Suite– are named after local mines. The Bellsgrove and Corrantee rooms look out over the loch, though the Sunart Suite, unsurprisingly, offers the most impressive views.
The Bothy Bar and Restaurant is decorated with the work of local artists, and serves a seasonal, hearty menu. It’s worth noting that aside from Sundays, lunches are only available seasonally – though there are always baguettes on offer.
The mix of locals and guests creates an authentic, relaxed atmosphere – particularly during the regular, lively music nights. From the breakfast room, enjoy the sight of Clach a Bhranguis, a prehistoric standing stone which looks out over the loch and is one of the area’s notable landmarks.
With the shore of the loch just steps from the front of the hotel, wildlife enthusiasts can head to Garbh Eilean Wildlife Hide to watch seals basking, look out for otters, and even spot a White-Tailed Eagle if you’re lucky! This is an ideal base for climbers tackling Ben Nevis, or daytrippers heading to the Isle of Mull or travelling on to the Isle of Skye. Other possibilities include Sanna Beach and the Ardnamurchan Lighthouse, the most westerly point in mainland Britain.
A warm atmosphere and stunning setting – a true Highland experience.
