The Place
The only sounds to disturb the peace in Powys come from the sheep on the surrounding hillsides, and from the nearby brook. Barlings Barn is a rural idyll in Llanbrynmair, in the heart of Wales, with a garden full of roses and honeysuckle: a picturesque setting for the outdoor activities, such as walking, bird-watching, fishing and golf, that you can enjoy in the surrounding Powys countryside.
It is, in fact, the perfect peace of the place that keeps this in our listings despite the move a few years ago towards a self-catering set-up. Home-made biscuits await your arrival in the secluded barns adjacent to Felicity and Terrys Welsh farmhouse, one with an oak-beamed stone fireplace and wood-burning stove. Their latest project has been to enclose the spring-fed, heated swimming-pool in a stunning new building, so guests can now make use of it all through the year.
The barns are well-equipped with fridge/freezers, microwaves and barbecues even a dishwasher. Though its basically self-catering, the local baker will deliver delicious warm bread to the door. There’s a colourful market every Wednesday in Machynlleth.
