The Place
Millgate House dates backto the early 1700s and, despite its relatively unassuming exterior, is full of surprises. Behind the street facade is a house of real charm and character, tastefully furnished with antiques and interesting pieces sourced from from all over the world. Below, and sloping away from the house, lies an awardwinning garden with excellent views across the river Swale towardsthe beautiful Cleveland Hills beyond.
What really sets Millgate House apart is its garden. Since scooping first prize in the National Royal Horticultural Society Garden Competition, the grounds have been featured in publications in the UK as well as internationally. The gardens are open all-year round, and entry is free to house guests.
Breakfast is very good at Millgate House and dinners can be pre-arranged for parties of 16 and over. The accommodation on offer is of a high standard, all bedrooms are warm and spacious with fine views, and each has its own large, airy bathroom with great period details. All of this, together with some outstanding care and service from the owners, make Millgate House a fine choice in this area.
