The Place
Three generations of the Filliette-Neuville family have run this charming, moat-girded 13thC château. With 28 rooms, it’s a little larger than our norm, but we like the individuality of each bedroom – some with handsome antiques and bright, patterned wallpaper; others calmer in pastel shades and quiet floral fabrics, with flowers picked from the garden. Regulars prefer the air conditioned rooms above the Orangerie, which overlook the drive and vineyards beyond – we would avoid the ‘small’ rooms, which really do lack space.
Dinners in the Orangerie are ‘a delight’, says our recent reporter, ‘even if the service is slow.’ A wistfully elegant place to stay, at fairly reasonable prices.
