The Place
If you are an enthusiast for off-piste, perhaps whacky hotel experiences, try this place conveniently located in a large but peaceful village 20 mins from Toulouse Airport. It describes itself as a hotel confidential – which means you wouldn’t recognise it immediately as a hotel. For sure, from the street it looks at first glance like a private house. It also describes itself as a hotel avec âme – a hotel with soul. Also true.
The owner-manager Sebastien has created a unique and quirky environment in this quite grand 1804 town house – look at the photographs. He wants to provide a one-off, friendly experience rather than than glossy decoration and facilities – and that is what this guide is all about.
We’re forgiving of worn carpets and other maintenance needs provided the place really is worth a detour – and the Leopoldine is just that – if you are the right sort of traveller. You won’t be happy here if you’re a stickler and favour neat, clinical modern interiors. That said, the basics are good: the room was clean, the bed was comfortable and the bathroom/shower up to date and sparkling. Breakfast, at around 13 euros, was generous and charged as an extra to the very reasonable room rate.
