The Place
Owner Marie-Pier’s parents transformed this late 17thC estate in Honfleur, Normandy, into a hotel in 1993 – she subsequently took over in 2011 and runs La Chaumière alongside her three children. The hotel consists of the main half-timbered house, the pretty stone Manoir de la Plage, and five hectares of beautiful grounds. There are nine bedrooms in the main house, each uniquely decorated and boasting wooden beams, high-quality fabrics and soft colour schemes. The Manoir de la Plage guesthouse contains six comfy yet stylish bedrooms, many named after healing herbs.
The rooms in both the Manoir and main house either have garden, park or sea views – we think it’s worth treating yourself to a Superior Room which looks out over the Seine estuary. The one-bedroom cottage La Bergerie is also a highlight, combining wide glass windows with the original stonework.
The restaurant also overlooks the water, and is frequented by both hotel guests and foodies alike. The exposed beams and open fireplace create a cosy atmosphere, and the dishes are made with local, seasonal produce as part of the hotel’s commitment to sustainability.
Guests have plenty of opportunity to relax, with the hotel offering yoga classes, fitness workshop, and massage treatments. There’s also an indoor swimming pool, tennis courts, and a petanque court with a sea view – you’ll be spoiled for choice.
