We once described the Elysees-Mermoz as ‘pretty’ and ‘charming’. That was before its complete renovation in 2009-10, a change that has given a slick, contemporary edge to this once homely hotel. The lobby is still conservatory-style with marble and terracotta tiled floors, but the decoration is now distinctly urban-chic; paintings by contemporary artists hang on the walls and modern smooth-lined furniture fill the public space. The bedrooms use luxurious fabrics and all have the modern amenities expected in hotels such as this, such as flatscreen TV, Wifi and i-pod dock sound system. The hotel also boasts its very own art gallery which hosts contemporary art exhibitions and a home cinema room.
