Why we love it...

Taste of the south. Things to do?

The Place

The arch above this hotel was the 17thC entrance to Saint Germain Abbey, yet peer in today and you’ll find a touch of Côte Sud here on rue Jacob. Our reporter arrived on a rainy day, and the entrance was most inviting. The tiny courtyard just off the reception room is charming too, and would make a calming spot from your breakfast – though the vaulted breakfast room in the cellar is enticing: red spotted chairs and books for the guests to enjoy.
The lively colour scheme runs throughout the hotel. Each room greets you with a red and yellow painted door, and walls of fresh yellow with red, green or blue stripes (beware the swirly carpets in the ‘blue’ rooms). The button-decorated headboards are particularly pretty and we were pleases to see tea-making facilities too.
The secret to this hotel is managing to look rustic without investing in the requisite furniture. Its vibrant approach is certainly different to many other more formal hotels in this area, but we would have preferred a better sitting area for guests to relax in – the sofas by the door could get chilly in winter.
