The Place
A small hotel with all the trappings, which stands out for charm and individuality, if not for notably good taste or coherence of interior design. Its bedrooms are all furnished in a hotchpotch of styles and colours; some have brightly coloured velvet bedheads, others have vigorously floral wallpaper and fabric, which seems to overwhelm them, particularly in Flowered Suite with its red-based fabrics and wallpaper; however we were intrigued by the long, thin Corail Suite), which has been recently renovated and whose busy wallpaper has a oceanic theme, with large shells and coral. At the far end of the large salon-cum-breakfast-room a bank of fresh flowers introduces a riot of colour; unfortunately it fails to mask a chocolate-box mural in powdery pastels, depicting early 20thC life in Saint-Germain. What you will find here is a friendly smile behind the reception desk and plenty of personal attention.
