The Place
Villeneuve-les-Avignon can claim to be the best location for discovering Avignon and its region. The hotel is located in the historic centre of Villeneuve, king and Cardinals’ territory. There are plenty of restaurants, all the treasures of Provence are easy to reach, markets create a great atmosphere every Thursday and Saturday mornings.
The building is a 16thC cardinal’s house that has been constantly renovated through the past few years to create a hotel of great character and style. Stéphane Ienny, the new owner, is lucky to inherit so many splendid features: the stone staircase, huge battered wooden doors, beamed ceilings and ancient fireplace. He continues to add fresh decorative ideas, improving this very French place, supported by an outstanding team. Bedrooms are all different, simple yet elegant.
At the back of the house is a lovely courtyard, where you can eat breakfast under the shade of a vine. Through a stone gateway beyond is a gloriously overgrown ‘secret garden’, a riot of oleander, geraniums and climbing roses in early summer. It’s hard to believe that Avignon is only a five-minute bus-ride across the Rhône.
