The Place
This recently renovated neoclassical building stands on a quiet street a short distance from the Spianada, Corfu town’s pretty central park. The exterior is elegant, with immaculate stucco work and a rather grand entrance portico which supports a balastruded balcony. Inside, the lobby has soft lighting and polished marble floors; the sitting room and bar have carved wooden ceilings.
The rooms are smallish, with very high ceilings (typical of the period during which the hotel was built) and shuttered windows which reach almost from floor to ceiling. Some have canopied four-poster beds. They are cool and comfortable enough, but are not rooms in which you would choose to spend much time except when resting. Fortunately, the hotel has a spacious and sunny garden, full of flowers and shrubs, where you can eat breakfast, or just sit.
The Bella Venezia does not have its own swimming pool, but it does have an arrangement for guests to use the smart Corfu Nautical Club, which has a private beach and water sports only 100 m away from the hotel. The restaurants, shops and museums of one of Greece’s prettiest island towns are all within walking distance.
