The Place
Located in south-east Crete, Aspros Potamos is known to be the most ancient settlement in the area of Pefki. Only for real lovers of the simple life, this little settlement of 300-year-old traditional cottages values quality over luxury; a calm, rural retreat, committed to respecting its historical architecture and the surrounding nature.
Inside, the cottages have stone floors, ceilings made from calamus reed in the traditional way, wooden furniture, and striped wool cushions and blankets to decorate (soft bedding is also provided). Light comes from oil lamps and candles as well as an award-winning solar panel system that powers lights in the bathrooms and reading lamps above the beds. It is basic, but the beauty here lies in its simplicity.
The area is surrounded by picturesque mountains and beautiful beaches – the nearest being just a 15 minute walk away. In the village of Makrigialos you can find shops, minimarkets, tavernas and coffee shops.
The calm, serene atmosphere here is like no other. Truly a great escape; ideal for the over-stressed city dweller.
