The Place
Simple, cheap and cheerful, this small hotel close to the centre of Chora is handily located but escapes the thumping disco beat that makes it hard to get a good night’s sleep in most small hotels closer to the centre of one of the Aegean’s nightlife hot spots. The management is very friendly, and the public areas and rooms are well and unfussily designed, in the style of a Mikonos home, with wooden shutters, a varnished pine ceiling, and marble floors.
The medium-sized pool is well situated, overlooked by a pleasant cafe terrace where you can sit gazing over the rooftops of the labyrinthine village while enjoying a drink as the sun sets.
Located on the main road that circles the town, the Rochari is accessible by car and has off-street parking. A downside is that there is some traffic noise, especially in the rooms at the back, but this seems a fair trade-off for some peace and quiet in the small hours.
Flowers and greenery make the pathways and small garden very pleasant, and overall the Rocari offers excellent value for money and an ideal location for those who want to stay in or near the centre of Chora.
