The Place
Baia Domizia is a modern and quite sophisticated seaside resort, stretching along a splendid, broad, sandy beach north of Naples. But at the Hotel della Baia you are unaware of being in a resort at all. It is a low-lying white building, standing well away from the main development, and its lush gardens lead straight past the tennis court to the beach. The hotel was opened about 35 years ago by the three Sello sisters from Venice, who have successfully reproduced the peaceful atmosphere of a stylish, if rather large, private villa. Spotless white stucco walls, cool tiled floors and white sofas are offset by bowls of fresh flowers and potted plants, and the antique and modern furnishings blend well together. The house feels lived-in, with books and magazines around, and an interesting range of pictures on the walls. Bedrooms are no less attractive; many have balconies. A smartly furnished veranda links the house to the garden, and deckchairs and extravagant white parasols are set out on the lawn. The hotel has traditionally aimed high with its food, and new reports, praising both the chef and the friendly restaurant and bar staff, confirm it as a most congenial place in which to eat.
