The Place
“Perfect for independent-minded English folk” says hostess Alessandra. You feel as if you are in your own private apartment – though it’s well serviced. You could stay here and not talk to the owner at all. But if you feel sociable or want advice, Alessandra, a real ‘people person’, is on hand.
She’s been known to pop out for a jar of strawberry jam to satisfy a guest’s whim, but of course for everyday visitor advice she is very sound, having lived in Rome for decades. She can tell you where the Romans eat, drink and shop. Her own apartment is in the same building, but you would never know.
The handsome building that houses the three rooms (two can be connected to make one spacious abode, good for a family) is on Via Tor Millina, a few steps walk from Piazza Navona and a short walk The Pantheon and Campo dei Fiori.
Back in your flat you can almost feel something like a local rather than a tourist. There’s an intimate public sitting area with a warm atmosphere in the entrance room that doubles as reception, and peace is to be found in the ultra-clean ambience of your apartment with its mix of contemporary comforts and artefacts and antiques. Services include home-made biscuits for tea; breakfast bought to your room; restaurant bookings; car rental and tickets for museums.
The home-from-home formula is what this guide is all about. Alessandra began her operation welcoming just friends or friends of friends, but later extended her guests to all nationalities.
