The Place
This large white 1920s villa on the shores of Lake Como stands out against a backdrop of wooded hills and immaculate gardens running right down to the shore. A path lined with potted plants leads down through neatly tended lawns to the lakeside terrace and the low-lying stone wall which is all that divides the gardens from the pebble beach and the lake. There are palm trees, arbours and stone urns where geraniums flourish. If you wish to take a trip on the lake, the ferry landing stage lies close by.
The interior is no disappointment. The public rooms are large and spacious, leading off to handsome halls. There are antiques wherever you go, and attractive touches such as pretty ceramic and copper pots brimming with flowers.
The restaurant is a lovely light room with breathtaking views and the salon is equally inviting with its ornate mirrors, fireplace and antiques. Bedrooms are bright, neutral in colour with wooden furnishings that give them a timeless feel. Antiques and beautiful views are the main features, but there is nothing grand or luxurious about them – hence the reasonable prices.
It’s central position on the Tremezzina coast gives guests a unique panorama across the water – a fairly unbeatable view.
