The Place
‘Simple’ and ‘elegant’ are the keywords to describe this little gem. Run by five wonderful ladies of the Frassine family, Hotel Villa Europa is a lovely country estate on the Western shore of Lake Garda, in the heart of the Alto Garda Bresciano Natural Park. They will go a step beyond the norm to ensure your comfort – service is attentive but not intrusive.
The location is captivating – Villa Europa is perfectly positioned for spectacular panoramic lake views, making it a calm retreat and a comfortable starting point for exploring the pretty little fishing town of Gargnano and the lake. While you have the convenience of being on the main coastal road, it’s also peaceful, being nestled in olive trees and 18thC lemon groves. It’s within walking distance of the town centre and the marina, but getting back to the hotel needs a little stamina, as it’s up a hill.
The style is homely, but with touches of luxury. Decorations are minimalist and elegant: simple design with some intricate touches, such as spiral details on the iron bed frames and curtain rails; gold-framed mirrors; paintings on the walls; and traditional floral and geometric patterns on the curtains and bed throws. The bedrooms are quite quaint. Each has its own character and colour theme, and some have balconies. Some look out to the garden, but most have views of Lake Garda with the backdrop of the imposing Monte Baldo.
Breakfast is a delight: freshly baked bread, traditional pastries, cakes and tarts. The vegetable garden provides much of the produce used in the kitchen, and the lemons and oranges are made into marmalade and preserves. Jams, capers, fresh lemons and extra virgin olive oil can be bought from their cellar shop. Ask for the three-day Garda Promotions Card at reception to take advantage of discounted local services and tourist attractions.
