The Place
Rising up from the fertile vineyards and orchards that surround the outskirts of Bolzano is the 11thC medieval tower, which forms the centrepiece of Schloss Korb. The hotel’s entrance is a riot of colour with flowering plants set against walls of golden stone and whitewash.
The interior is traditional and antiques and flowers abound; reception is a cool, dark tiled hall set about with a most eccentric collection of objects. Surrounding the main restaurant is a terrace, awash with plants that hangs out over the valley, where breakfast and drinks can be enjoyed.
The bedrooms in the castle are large, with seperate sitting-areas and lovely views over the vineyards. Attention has been taken to decorate them combining a mixture of traditional and modern. Each is different but the best are in the tower, as well as the apartment with its carved furniture. The detached annexe behind the main building has the heated indoor pool while the outdoor one has magical views over the surrounding countryside. The feel of the place of relaxed, though not intimate.
