The Place
A recent revisit confirmed that this is an aristocrat among mountain hotels, in the best sense – the Neyroz family (third generation in place) don’t think they have a right to be at the top, but reinvest and work hard to build on their assets.
It’s a little above Breuil-Cervinia (shuttle bus to ski lifts) and most of the rooms have mesmerising views on to the majestic Monte Cervino. Attention to detail – beautifully-designed corridors, comfortable bedrooms and bathrooms, and a secluded garden with lovely Alpine ‘folly’ outbuildings – add up to a glossy but sincere operation.
Besides these we admired the lovely panelled dining room; the different design and colours in the bedrooms (restrained good taste); the sensible separate room for the piano, opening on to the large guest drawing room; the Alpine paintings by Roda; the new La Pairie spa; the food (flamed dishes a speciality); the cosy breakfast room with its wood block floor.
If this place is within your budget, think seriously about ditching French or Swiss skiing and come here. At 2050 m, Breuil-Cervinia’s snow comes early (October even) and can melt in May. They have great contacts with a small ski school. Or come in summer for golf, mountain walking (again, good connections with recommendable guides) – and many other activities.
