The Place
For no immediately obvious reason, the unremarkable Chianti village of Castellina contains a cluster of Tuscany’s most appealing hotels. Salivolpi is welcome addition to the catalogue, open since 1983, offers a much cheaper alternative to its two illustrious neighbours Tenuta de Ricavo and Villa Casalecchi. It occupies two well-restored farm buildings and one new bungalow in a peaceful open position on the edge of the village, supposedly the location of the Ancient Etruscan castellina affording broad views across the countryside.
