The Place
Tucked away in a quiet alley in the medieval heart of one of southern Umbria’s unsung towns, this friendly small hotel provides an ideal staging post for those travellers who prefer the ‘backroads’ route along the via Flaminia to Rome. As well as the magnificent Piazza dei Priori, the town’s Romanesque duomo and the 14thC Palazzo del Podesta provide ample reason for an overnight detour.
A lift, or a grandiose black oval staircase, takes you up to the comfortable modern bedrooms which look out into the central courtyard or over the pantiled roofs of the medieval borgo. A few have small balconies. Downstairs, the “La Loggia” restaurant spills out into the courtyard in the summer months. Its menu is mainly Umbrian and includes truffles in season.
