When Pope Innocent II came to this spot in 1198, his presence is reputed to have caused a fountain to begin spouting, giving renewed strength to himself and his retinue. Today the site is occupied by an impressive 19thC building, with soft yellow painted exterior walls, which was transformed into an elegant hotel in 1995. The yellow colour scheme continues inside in the light, sunny hallway and sitting areas. Several of the pastel-toned bedrooms have a balcony or terrace; all of them are soundproofed and have a large bathroom. Right in the centre of Spoleto, but peacefully set in lush gardens, the San Luca also has a roof garden and a spacious courtyard, filled with flowers and olive trees.
