The Place
The Bel Sito has its charms, including a flowery patio right on the campo, and given a sympathetic facelift one feels it could make a fine hotel. Too many of the rooms, however (they vary greatly) are small, skimpily furnished and worn at the edges, and the extensive reception room looks dowdy (although the long, mirrored breakfast room retains its old-fashioned dignity). There are two special rooms, worth a stay here if you can procure them: Nos 30 and 40, with wonderful close-up views of the exuberant baroque facade of Santa Maria Zobenigo, which you can almost reach out and touch. Also worthwhile are the rooms with views on to the canal; the others don’t have a great deal to recommend them.
