The Place
Looking out onto the Giudecca canal, La Calcina’s location is not to be beaten. This historic Venetian house combines traditional features with style on the sunny bank of the Zattere promenade. Just a short walk from sights such as the Accademia Bridge, Peggy Guggenheim Collection, and St Mark’s Square, the area is undeniably central while out of the way of busier tourist routes.
The rooms vary in price according to their view: those looking out over the canal are pricier, with the light-filled corner rooms as the most expensive, but if you want to treat yourself the view is worth it. All rooms are elegantly decorated, with antique furniture and parquet flooring.
Restaurant La Calcina offers a selection of traditional Venetian and Mediterranean dishes, all made with seasonal ingredients and able to be paired with fine Italian wines. The dining room, complete with beams, is sumptuously decorated, but better still is the panoramic outdoor terrace where guests can enjoy their meals and drinks overlooking the canal – weather permitting. The view is particularly spectacular at sunset – order a spritz and enjoy.
Staff are genuine, warm and attentive, ready to advise on anything from which room to book, to which sights to see.
