The Place
Sitting on the sunny promenade of the Zattere, lapped by the choppy waters of the wide Giudecca canal, gives you the distinct feeling of being by the seaside. This open setting, with a grand panorama across the lagoon, is just one of the charms of the Seguso.
A pensione in the old tradition, it is a family-run, friendly and solidly old-fashioned place to stay. And (unlike most hotels in Venice) prices are modest; the Seguso is not noted for its food, but half board here costs no more than bed-and-breakfast alone in hotels of similar comfort closer to San Marco.
The best bedrooms are the large ones at the front of the house, overlooking the canal – though for the privilege of the views and space you may have to forfeit the luxury of a private bathroom (20 rooms have their own facilities, while the others share facilities with another room).
The main public rooms are the dining room, prettily furnished in traditional style, and the modest sitting room where you can sink into large leather chairs and peruse ancient editions of travel writing and guidebooks.
Breakfast is taken on the front terrace – delightful. Fellow guests are often friendly, interesting and great Venice enthusiasts. Group bookings (maximum 30 people) are accepted, though not in September and May.
