The Place
We have long counted this hotel, in part of a convent in the old town of Arcosde la Frontera, as one of our favourites in Andalucia. Readers have subsequently confirmed this judgement: a recent reporter says it would ‘live long in any visitor’s memory’; the only carping note is from those who notice its inclination for self-congratulation. Extensive changes have been made to provide more spacious public areas and a cafe.
Certainly the owners, Jose Antonio Roldan and his wife Maria Moreno, could not be more welcoming; but neither does Sr Roldan miss an opportunity to promote his enterprise.
The bedrooms are homely, and sometimes decorated with ingenuous taste. Each year one of them is formally dedicated to a ‘famous’ son of Arcos. Eight of the rooms have terraces and most enjoy panoramic views to rival those of the nearby Parador. Breakfast is served in the cafeteria and terrace or in rooms.
