The Place
‘Highly original… deliciously comfortable’ writes our reporter. Be warned: this guest house is not for those that don’t get on with dogs (owner Diana Paget has a charming Staffordshire bull terrier). Diana treats her guests as if they are close friends or relatives: you feel as if her home is your home, indeed to get to the terrace you have to walk through the kitchen where Diana may well be preparing dinner; you help yourself to a drink as you go.
Off the stunning and lushly planted, cobbled courtyard are the bedrooms. They’re small, but bursting with character and colour. Antiques are dotted around everywhere, especially in the bedrooms. There are some spectacular views over the Jimena Valley and as far as the Rif mountains of Morocco.
Down a narrow covered walkway are the stables where you can jump on a horse and explore your surroundings, which are rich in flora and fauna, especially birds and wild flowers. Both buildings were refurbished in 2011 and we are keen to hear visitors’ views.
