The Place
A delightful little ochre-red country house, well restored, set in lovely grounds, with great views down on to Xativa and above to the Moorish castle: with just sixteen bedrooms, the Hosteria de Mont Sant is essentially a charming restaurant with rooms. The welcome is warm, the atmosphere relaxed; the service is faultless and every detail has been thought out – all in a way that a larger place could not imitate. It is recommended by two widely-travelled readers, who were impressed by the friendly atmosphere, spotless maintenance, efficient organization, large beds and all-round comfort.
There’s a spacious sitting room with French windows making the most of the views; an intimate dining room with doors to a terrace for eating outside. The menu is ‘excellent’ and reasonably priced. Bedrooms, all decorated indivually, are simply furnished in Spanish period style. The Castle Room has particularly good views. It would be worth pausing here for more than just one night in order to explore historic Xativa, and to mellow out beside the secluded swimming pool.
