The Place
FincaHotel CanColl is just a few minutes from the centre of Sóller, on a hillside, in the middle of an orange and lemon plantation, and the finca enjoys splendid views on to the hills round about. Daniel and Maike Seeling have been there for six years, during which time they have totally renovated the hotel. Much of the decoration is inspired by the colours and scents of the surrounding gardens: each bright, air bedroom has a unique theme, from lavender to peach. The entrance hall, flooded with light, welcomes guests with certain Mediterranean aplomb. Bright cane furniture is offset naturally by terracotta-tiled floors, and exposed wood beams lend an appropriately rustic feel.
The bodega offers an interesting selection of wines and cigars, and the newly appointed chef prepares a menu that changes daily. In the large garden there is a swimming pool along with sun terraces.
Sóller and its valley of orange plantations are a pleasant environment: the steep mountain slopes offer protection from the winds, which can be fierce, and the little town is a lively meeting place both for natives and visitors. Reports welcome.
