The Place
Felanitx resembles a large town in miniature: it boasts a superb church with an imposing outside staircase; a lively market hall; a weekly market that happens every Sunday on the Rambla; and many corner shops that sell all manner of things, both practical and useless.
Just 4 km from Felanitx is the lovely Posada d’Aumallia, a perfect example of a classic manor house of the 1900s, decorated with contemporary rural elegance. As you enter the magnificent doorway and step into the main drawing room, you feel as if you’ve stepped back a hundred years. A fire crackles in the marble fireplace; an opulent, gold-framed mirror hangs above. To the right, an elegant grand piano and cello apparently wait to be played. The bedrooms are in local Mallorcan style, with antique furniture and locally woven fabrics. Bathrooms are a fair size. The half-panelled dining room exudes early 19thC charm.
Meanwhile, in the garden, peacocks shred the air with their strange cries, and the Mallorcan evening meal is announced. The mood could hardly be better. And the sea is just 7 km away from this idyll.
