The Place
Esporles is one of Mallorca’s many typical villages, consisting basically of a main street on which everyday life is played out. S’Hostal d’Esporles, centrally situated in a row of terraced houses opposite the church, gives you a ringside seat. Plane trees make it pleasantly shady in hot weather; in fact the leafy surroundings are more like a garden than a village. The hostal’s rooms are unpretentious, simply furnished but with love, in the local rustic style. It’s a well-known local favourite, that has been in business for more than 70 years. Good Mallorcan cooking is available on request. There are plenty of interesting trips to be made in the area, including La Granja estate, which dates back to the time of the Moors, and which today houses a worthwhile museum. There are also plenty of local craftwork centres, and places where you can discover how pastries and other Mallorcan specialities are made.
