The Place
Ribadesella has long been quite a stylish resort, popular with holiday makers attracted by the port and the estuary of the river Sella, with its sandy beaches and spectacular scenery. The Hotel Ribadesella Playa, converted from one of the many old family villas which line the bay, across the river from the main town, had a full renovation in 2001 and has been carefully and sensitively modernised.
The hotel is right on the beach, beside a grassed promenade, free of traffic, and many of the bedrooms – smartly done up with traditional-style modern furniture – have long windows and balconies with views over the water. The restaurant is in the lower part of the house, cool and airy, with stone floors and sympathetic wooden furniture.
The hotel has no pretensions to luxury, but combines comfortable accommodation with a relaxed and informal atmosphere. A happy choice for a beach holiday, with the added advantage for many visitors of the nearby town and the mountains with their walks, caves and birdlife.
