The Place
Chic and central sums up this hotel, which is ideal for those who want to be close to all the facilities of this big, busy ski resort. Bedrooms are large and furnished with pale-wood built-in cupboards and desks. Bathrooms are first-rate: white marble with huge mirrors.
Downstairs, the Buffalo Grill restaurant serves food in the two dining rooms. With its old, caramel-coloured wood and traditional carved chairs, the Davoserstübli has a pleasingly masculine look. More feminine is the honey-toned wood panelling in the breakfast room. As well as beef steak, the menu includes buffalo, venison and fish dishes. There is a lengthy wine list to complement the cooking.
Although the atmosphere seems luxurious and sedate, this is popular with families and the younger generation, who come for skiing and mountain biking. In season, the Rotliechtli bar has live music and stays open until 3 a.m. Happily, this is well insulated from guests. Some guests have been disturbed by the chimes of the clock tower nearby, but earplugs are provided for light sleepers.
