The Place
Folk architecture is such a Swiss tradition that a brand-new hotel poses a challenge to interior designers. The phoenix that rose in 1992 from the ashes of the old Seehof at the Valbella end of Lenzerheide’s lake is a tribute to the imagination. Mirrors add light to corridors and every white wall bears a striking modern painting that deserves a second look. Valuable hand-woven Persian nomad carpets in warm, rust-red colours are spread over the grey-green granite floors and soften the strong contemporary line.
The yellow, blue and pine restaurant is the focal point of a visit here. Chefs Roberto and Marco cook delicious and well-presented dishes with fresh, seasonal produce. The influence is Italian, with tagliatelle with black truffles and risotto on the menu. Some recent visitors have found the prices expensive, others feel the price is fair compared to other restaurants nearby.
Bedrooms are large and plain with pine furniture against white walls; all have lake views. Bathrooms are modern with white tiles and black marble. Family-friendly and cheerful, the Seehof is popular with active types who like the great outdoors.
