The Place
The setting is almost perfect: on the corner of a traffic-free village green with a fountain, flowers and views over Geneva and the mountains of the Salève. It even has the village church nearby. Yet this idyll is so close to the city that the number two trolley bus stops just at the end of the road, so guests can become temporary commuters, returning each evening to rural peace broken only by the church clock chiming.
Our reporter felt at home as soon as he walked inside. The bar and restaurant are the focal points of the hotel and of the village, where business is done and the conversation is animated. Bedrooms aren’t fussy and have a Scandinavian look: white with touches of colour, the occasional print, plenty of potted plants and large cupboards for clothes. Bathrooms are functional.
The inn is closed for refurbishment until mid-December 2013 and, as we went to press, no information was available on prices, opening dates, or the number of rooms available, so we haven’t changed this information – contact the hotel when it reopens for up to date details. Even so, it’s a useful base for sightseeing and is worth visiting just for the restaurant.
