The Place
Ingrid and Hansruedi Berner-Mol took over this hotel from their parents, Elly and Jan. Now the third generation are also involved in what is a real family-oriented hotel. Spacious and regularly redecorated, this has all the atmosphere of a chalet.
The main sitting-room looks on to the indoor swimming-pool, which itself opens out into the garden. As for accommodation, choose from junior suites such as number 44, which is open-plan and airy, with white pine and contemporary fabrics, an extra-large bathroom and a balcony looking over the rugged Trient valley. The family rooms include a separate room for children, with bunk-beds and full bathroom facilities; there are also smaller bedrooms which have not yet been renovated and are consequently cheaper.
A former journalist, Jan Mol, publishes a daily newsletter with a weather report and suggestions for hikes or ski trips. Convivial raclette evenings every Wednesday are the only threat to an otherwise pervasive mountain calm. The ski-fields above the hotel are the only spot in Valais where the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc are visible at the same time.
